Gnocchi alla sorrentina, gnocchi in the style of Sorrento, are a wonderfully simple Italian dish. Sorrento is a town near Naples and the dish itself seems to be a few hundred years old – some sources mention its existence even in the XVIth century! According to the legend, they were invented along with gnocchi themselves, when a cook tried to use potato – at those times a new veggie imported to Europe from America. Be this true or not, gnocchi alla sorrentina are one of the most famous gnocchi dishes, so simple and delicious.

Of course one can make own gnocchi, an it would increase the taste. However, since the quality of the ready made gnocchi available in supermarkets in Croatia is quite good, and since as a working person cooking one meal for one or two on regular days imo shouldn’t last more than 1 hour, I present the practical recipe with ready made gnocchi.

Suitable for: Gnocchi alla sorrentina are vegetarian (not vegan), halal (not kosher), contain lactose, glutene and eggs, but no other common allergenes (soy, nuts, shellfish…)
