A recipe says bake at 175 degrees Celsius, but your oven temperature units are Fahrenheit, to what temperature should you set it?

Unfortunately, different temperature units of measure are not proportional, so it is not possible to state a number you just have to multiply or divide with to convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit.
The rule says: The temperature in degrees Fahrenheit is equal to 32 added to 9/5 of the temperature value in Celsius. Not that easy, is it?

If you don’t have access to software for unit conversions, you still don’t have to despair! Given the temperature value in Celsius, you have four easy steps to get the Fahrenheit value:
- Double the given value.
- Divide by 10, i.e. move the decimal point one step to the left.
- Subtract the second from the first result.
- Add 32.
For example, a recipe requires to keep a stew cooking on 70 degrees Celsius. How much is it in Fahrenheit? You calculate: 70*2=140, 140/10 = 14, 140 – 14 = 126, 126 + 32 = 158. Thus, 70 C is 158 F.
For quick reference, here are few common oven settings in degrees Celsius with the corresponding Fahrenheit values:
